PROJECT NOMME
PROJECT NOMME (Needs of the Marginal
Middle Class Elderly), funded by the UJAFederation
Weinberg Fund for the Aging, offers the elderly
population help with shopping, light housekeeping,
personal care, and escort and case management services.
The program is staffed by certified home health aides and
supervised by professional staff who make the assessment
for eligibility in a home visit. On-going appointments
may be made to see clients in their home for counseling
about health, family or entitlement concerns as
needed. Fees for this service: $10/hour.
Teens Serving Seniors
Teens Serving Seniors bridges the gap between
generations and cultures as it offers supportive service to
the elderly. Clients’ needs are assessed by a professional
staff member who supervises the teens as they provide
light housekeeping, shopping, laundry and friendly
visiting. Case management and counseling are available
to clients when needed. Fees for this service: $10/hour.
Project SAGES
Project SAGES supplements the support available
through homecare services. Students from NYC colleges
and universities visit elderly clients at home and join
them in holiday and special group activities. Participating
students receive on-going support and supervision from
professional staff. The program supervisor interviews
prospective clients, assesses their needs and acts as a
liaison between them and their student visitor. The
interaction between the students and the elderly builds
bridges and helps erase unwanted stereotypes.
Steps to Safety
Steps to Safety provides assistance to elderly crime
victims. Professional social workers offer counseling,
assistance with lock/key replacement and applications
for state crime victim’s assistance. All clients must
have notified the police about the incident to be eligible
for help.
