Adult Social & Cultural Services
The Emigre Services Department
Being a new immigrant can be very stressful. To ease
the transition, the Y provides support services through
our Émigré Services department. Besides helping choose
an appropriate school for adults and children,we also
provide "English as a Second Language" courses geared
to the client’s knowledge of the language; it also offers
civic classes to immigrants who plan on taking the
citizenship test.
For those who want to attend college or graduate
school, the department translates transcripts and
diplomas from any language of the former Soviet Union
into English. We also translate birth, marriage, divorce,
and death certificates, immunization records and other
official documents.
A bi-lingual staff member can provide case management
services and information about entitlement programs
such as public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid,
and SSI and green cards as well as assistance with all
applications.
