The Y Meets Harbor Heights

The Harbor Heights Middle School serves recent arrivals from Spanish-speaking countries. The school strives to offer extra social, academic, and emotional support to their students. Harbor Heights’ leadership team has partnered with the Y to deliver the Schools Out New York City (SONYC) program to its students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Since September 2014, both Harbor Heights and the Y have remained focused on the educational vision of building on children’s critical thinking in their own lives.

Quality Programming & Activities

Having been at Harbor Heights for three full school years, we have been improving the quality of services the after school program offers our students. After conducting several student and parent surveys, we have created a program tailored to the needs and wants of both groups. Our goal is that with the help of our students, the program will continue to grow and eventually become a household name within the community.

A Caring Staff

Our staff members are all passionate about youth work; they see themselves as mentors and role models for our participants. Numerous staff trainings throughout the year make sure they are prepared to engage the students in as many ways as possible. The SONYC program requires and only selects candidates that understand the struggles of growing up in a new environment. We are always here to help!
