As Jewish Life and Enrichment Manager, Rabbi Ezra is responsible for infusing Jewish life throughout the Y in a wide range of activities including Jewish holidays, our summer camp and our after school, and for the management and successful execution of the Y's Enrichment programs, mainly our daily Nursery Electives, Sunday birthday parties, and Super Soccer Stars. Having spent over 25 years in five different Jewish overnight camps Ezra brings expertise in experiential Jewish education and the feel of camp wherever he goes.
Rabbi Ezra received his BA from Hampshire College in 1999 and his MA in Conflict Transformation from the School for International Training in 2003. He also spent seven years in Israel, adding a strong Israeli flavor to his brand of Jewish education. Ezra is a trained facilitator in having difficult conversations on the topic of Israel. Having received rabbinic ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 2009, Ezra spent four years as a congregational Rabbi, including two years as the Marshall T. Meyer Rabbinic Fellow at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun in New York City. Since then he has pursued his passion for working with youth including two years as the Assistant Director at Eden Village Camp.
As a way of highlighting some pieces of the work Ezra does at the Y, he feels very proud to be involved in shaping the Jewish character of Camp Twelve Trails, the Y's camp for 5-16 year olds. Through the intentional use of music, rituals, and the creation of camp traditions, Ezra brings important Jewish sensibilities to the camp team. He is also proud of being a co-founder of Ukulele Shabbat, a weekly song session for 0-2 year olds and their caretakers.
