Prior to coming to the Y, Lauren had over a decade of experience working with individuals with disabilities and a passion for empowering people of all abilities to be active, fully included members of their communities. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech, working closely with preschoolers on the autism spectrum during the school year, and leading older youth in a therapeutic recreation day camp during the summer. After graduating, Lauren moved to Boston to conduct research with a team investigating the social inclusion of youth with disabilities in high schools and in a local summer camp. Lauren went on to receive her Master of Social Work from Boston University, during which time she provided individual and group counseling for adults with Asperger's and ran empowerment programming with transition-age youth with disabilities. Lauren is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Y's inclusion of youth with disabilities in Be Me, Camp Twelve Trails, and Sunday Funday.
