Uptown Hub at the Y

The Y is thrilled to partner with the Uptown Hub at NewYork-Presbyterian to provide a paid internship opportunity for youth in the community to gain Lifeguard training and certification. Through this internship opportunity, interns will participate in employment readiness workshops to prepare for employment during the summer of 2020.

Currently, all 12 slots are filled for the YM & YWHA and Uptown Hub Lifeguard internship. However, youth between the ages of 14 and 24 are welcome to enroll for free in the Uptown Hub to connect to other resources in the areas of employment, education, health and wellness. Open enrollment for new members at the Uptown Hub is Monday- Friday between 2:30-4:30pm. The Uptown Hub is located at 635 W 165th Street (corner of 165th Street & Fort Washington Avenue). Participants: 14-24 year olds who live, work, or go to school in Washington Heights and Inwood
Days: Wednesdays, running Janruary 8th to June 24th (excluding Y closures)
Time: 4-6 pm

Activities/Resources at the Hub: Tutoring and Academic Support, HSE Classes, ESOL Classes, College/SAT Prep, Sports and NYC Parks Gym Memberships, Reproductive Health Workshops, Confidential Medical Care and Counseling, Assistance with Health Insurance and Food Stamps, Job Training, Professional Development, Paid Internship Opportunities, Computer and Internet Access, Art, Music and Theater, Snacks, Games, Movie nights, Special Events and more!

Partner Agencies

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital oversees the Uptown Hub. It is one of five Youth Opportunity Hubs that are funded by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office's Criminal Justice Investment Initiative. The hubs provide social spaces and link neighborhood service providers to provide comprehensive support for underserved teens and young adults.
